Hydrochloric acid, 36% (conc.)

S8001450

Question

What is the molarity of the concentrated solution?

Answer

Density = 1.18g/ml (1800g/L); Assay = 36%; MW = 36.46.

 Molarity = (density (g/l) x (assay%/100)) ÷ mol wt

 Therefore: (1180 x 0.36) ÷ 36.46 = 11.65M
