IRON (III) SULPHATE HYDRATE

S0001171/500G

Question

Iron(lll) sulphate (Ferric chloride) - what is the molecular weight and how do I know how much to use to make up a particular concentration solution?

Answer

Fe2(SO4)3 . xH2O   Anhydrous (no water present) MW is 399.88g/mol. Difficult to give an exact molecular weight as it depends on how much water (of crystallisation) is present - can be variable & depends on storage conditions etc. Our supplier can not be specific either. However, this is usually just required as a non-specified concentration solution so it should not be too important.
