AMMONIUM IRON (III) CITRATE, green

S0003034/100G

Question

My Ammonium iron (lll) citrate should be green but it now looks brown - is this correct?

Answer

Ammonium iron (lll) citrate can be reduced to ferrous salt by exposure to light. Sometimes you find that, if stored in a clear bottle, the powder on the outside (i.e. exposed to light) can turn brown whereas the rest of the powder remains a greenish colour.
